The great unconformity in Manitous Springs
With an intro class, we stood between the famous unconformity—more precisely, a nonconformity—in Manitou Springs, CO, where the Pikes Peak Granite (~1.03 Ga) is overlain by the Sawatch Sandstone (~500 Ma). Approximately 500 million years are missing due to erosion and nondeposition.
